Redecorate for Spring:

Welcoming the Warmth & Color of the Season

By Jessica Ackerman,

Revitalize your spirit and energy by welcoming spring into your home. The winter blahs are almost over and the first few welcome signs of spring are beginning to peek through the window. The forsythia are about to burst into glorious yellow bloom and the crocus along the front walk are pushing up tender green shoots. Spring is a time of renewal and hope after a long winter. Welcome the warmth and color of spring into your home with decorating ideas that are a breath of fresh air.

Easy Transformation Tips

It’s easy to refresh and lighten the look of a room by switching out accessories. While dark colors and snuggly throws may have been your heart’s desire in the dead of winter, it’s time to wash them and put them away.

Replace them with cheery pillows and throws in checks, stripes and florals in pastel shades like yellow, white and light green. Put the snowmen collectibles away and bring in playful bunnies and garden theme decor. Consider replacing dark lamp shades with lighter colored or wicker shades.

Try slipcovers for the upcoming warmer season that are lighter in color or have a fresh pattern that gives whole new look to your room without replacing the furniture. Dark area rugs can be replaced with rugs of natural jut or sisal.

Decorate with the Buds and Blooms of Spring

There are many easy ways to add floral arrangements that tell you spring is just around the corner. Pick up fresh cut flowers for a song from your favorite supermarket, farmers market or street vendor. The garden center at your home improvement store carries a wonderful selection of house plants, potted flowering plants and spring bulbs that have been forced and ready for a new home in sunny kitchen window. Let hyacinths, crocus, daffodils and tulips come out and say hello and with the fragrance and color of spring.

metal plant wall vases

Craft stores sell artificial silk flowers and greens that can be arranged in your favorite vases or urns and eventually in metal wall vases.

Layer them on top of cabinets, mantels or table tops along with candles and other seasonal décor.

Artificial topiary complete with their own stone pot or urn are easier to maintain than the real thing and look just as good.

Make a cheerful springtime wreath for your door with a grapevine wreath and some silk blooms and ribbon. Use artificial branches of forsythia or cherry blossoms as part of a ‘tablescape’, tucked into a wreath, or simply in a tall dramatic vase.

Fragrant Candles and Floral Rings

Add the intoxicating scent of spring to your floral arrangements in scents like honeysuckle, freesia, lilac and lavender.

Create an easy and elegant arrangement for a table top with a cake stand, pillar candles and artificial flowers. Start with a table runner or scarf then simply center your cake stand and top with several pillar candles in two or more heights. Tuck in artificial spring blooms and arrange budding branches or vines on the table. Add a little more interest with a miniature topiary, spring theme ceramic collectibles, and additional taper or votive candles.

On the wall you can put canvas art paintings in fresh colors. Or you can choose abstract wall art reminding of the reviving life in spring. lily

Table Linens and Accessories

Freshen up with linens and accessories in pastels and lively patterns that say spring is here! Table linens, place mats, napkins, napkin rings, and dishtowels make it easy to welcome the season to your kitchen and dining area. Craft stores offer a wide array of affordable dishes, platters, egg cups, teapots, vases and accessories in spring colors and motifs that make it a breeze to complete your transition to spring!
