Five Easy Steps to Make Your House a Home

Whether it’s your first time buying or you are experienced in the process of moving home, making your house a warm, comfortable and stylish place to live is likely to be important to you.

Here is our guide of how to make your new house a home in five easy steps.

1. Paint a feature wall

Blank white walls can feel a bit impersonal and generic, but if you haven’t got the patience, money or time to redecorate an entire room you could try painting a feature wall.

This can add personality and focus to a room, leaving you to accessorise with other elements to add depth.

2. Flowers and foliage

Never underestimate the power of plants! Fresh or fake, flowers look beautifully feminine in the home, whilst potted plants have a more masculine feel.

You can’t go wrong with white flowers as they are very elegant, but to add interest why not choose a coloured vase to put them in?

3. Get creative with art

There’s nothing quite like a display of your own personal artwork around the house to put your stamp on a place.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be Picasso to create your own works; you could simply cover a series of canvas’ with some beautiful patterned paper, mount a selection of colour coordinated plates in a symmetrical pattern on the wall for a really modern effect, or get that awesome photo of a cityscape you took blown up onto a canvas.  view of rooftops

The options are really endless here and there are lots of design websites to draw inspiration from.

4. Coordinate with soft furnishings

Soft furnishings like rugs, cushions and curtains can add warmth and cosiness to a room.

Throws are also a nice way to make your room feel cosier.

5. Celebrate your life

Have you been travelling or visited some exotic places? Did grandma leave you some china? Do you have any trophies or awards you are proud of?

Display personal items which mean something to you or have a story behind them - they are great conversation pieces and bring you life into your home.

Photographs are another great way to bring a personal touch into a room.
